Boys Room
So, apparently, someone here at work has been making a mess in the men’s room. Paper towels in the urinals and on the floor, the toilets are getting backed up, there’s just a general disarray in the bathroom. In my first weeks here the men were rounded up and told about this, and apparently it wasn’t the first time this has happened. Now that it is still happening we were rounded up again and yelled at. We are now going to have some sort of rotating schedule where we will be checking on the state of the bathroom. We’re not going to be cleaning it, but we are gong to have to make sure that these things aren’t happening anymore. If the problem still persists the building will cease to provide janitorial services for our bathroom, meaning that we will have to clean it ourselves.
This, of course, is complete and utter bullshit. I have been to Boy Scout camps where hundreds of 11-18 year old boys don’t have nearly this hard of a time keeping the bathroom clean.
I think I’m almost done ranting. If I see you in person, you’ll likely get more. Just wanted to update the masses… on the status of the bathroom… ARGH!!
This is how you do it…
The other night I made roughly 30 grilled cheese sandwiches, using a variety of breads, cheeses, and condiments. With all of the available ingredients, there were hundreds of sandwich possibilities, and I tried to hit as many of them as possible.
The Bread
Potato bread is the standard that all other breads are compared to in the grilled cheese universe. It resembles white in many ways, but it has a firmness and flavor that your standard white lacks.
Sourdough makes for big sandwiches that are rather crispy. The flavor works, as long as the appropriate cheese(s) is/are used.
Sourdough with cheddar and garlic is just downright yummy, and makes for good appetizers. The flavor may be a bit much to eat a whole sandwich, especially if you are already mixing cheeses and other ingredients.
Rye is my favorite now, but only when used with specific ingredients. I love wheat bread, and rye is a first cousin of wheat. Avocado and rye go hand in hand.
The Cheeses
American slices were present, but took a back seat to the other cheeses, only because of their exotic natures. Similar to potato bread, this is the standard that all other cheeses are compared to in the grilled cheese universe.
Brie is hands down a melting cheese, especially when combined with grilled onions. As a matter of fact, I’m not going to list grilled onions on their own, as they are only to be used if you plan on melting brie on them. The brie works well on most any sandwich, and melts splendidly.
Swiss was nice for an extra kick of flavor, but won’t melt too well on it’s own. If it’s on top of another ingredient, or another cheese, it will melt.
Muenster is pretty good on anything, and melts splendidly. I used this on most of the sandwiches, and it was real good.
Colby Jack was just as good as the muenster, and was used nearly as often.
The Extras
Tomato is good with swiss, and makes for a sweet burst you might not expect from your grilled cheese.
Avocado make everything all better. Of course I’m biased, what with my deep rooted love for the green delicacy, but I’ll be damned if it doesn’t make for some excellent grilled cheese.
Capers are nice for a slight BANG, and a big one if you bite in to one.
My favorite sandwich combinations:
1) Rye with avocado, muenster, and pepper jack.
2) Sourdough with grilled onions, brie, and colby jack
3) Potato with tomato, swiss, muenster, and capers.
Of course after making all those sandwiches, I will likely not eat cheese at all for several weeks. I’m still feeling the effects. But, damn, were those some mighty fine sammiches.
The New Desk
I have been moved to the phone team, or Live Team, per my request. Writing over 100 emails in a day may be fun for some, but I’d rather talk to the person and get the problems resolved on the phone.
In a stroke of brilliance, I was seated between a guy named Chris, and a girl named Lupe. Lupe would sometimes be called Loop, or Loopy. So now when people call out Chris, Loop, or Loopy my head turns instinctively, and I’m typically not the person being called.
I’m enjoying the work. The hours are a lot better, and I’m able to go to the gym after work, which is nice.
Tonight I am going to make grilled cheese like only I can. I have been given a gift. When creating something that involves melting cheese, the infinite powers of the universe come down on the dish in question and bless it with all the wonders and grace in the world. In other words, it’s the bomb grilled cheese. Tonight I’m going to be using several different kinds of cheese along with several types of bread. We’ll see how they turn out.
Boobies.
Airborne Swines
For years now I have tried to land myself a Monday thru Friday job working 9-6, or something as close to that as possible. The closest I had gotten to this was working for the $camatologists, which lasted but a week.
When I interviewed for the position at eHarmony, I was told that I would have to work one weekend day a week, and that the times available to work included 7am-4pm and 4pm-1am. These times both suck my ass. While I was training I was on the 4pm-1am schedule. When they try and sell you on this schedule, they say that you have your whole morning and afternoon to do stuff. Bullshit. You sleep and do nothing until you go to work, then after work nothing’s open and nobody is awake. The 7am schedule is okay, except for that whole waking up at 5:45 (that’s 4:45 if you ride your bike and take the train). I do like leaving work when the sun is still up.
I just found out, officially, that I will be working on the phones here at eHarmony. What does this mean? Well, seeing as how the phones are only available Monday thru Friday from 8am-6pm, that’s when I’ll be working. KICK ASS!
Dads, Dino’s, and Doggies
Last Friday I was fortunate enough to meet a Amanda’s dad who was in town taking in the sites and whatnot. I had met her mom before, and had heard a good deal about her dad, so I was especially eager to meet her other creator. She had dinner at her house for about 14 people, which was pretty hard core. She has dinner at her place weekly for the homies, which is just a testament to her awesomeness. I’ve only been there for a couple dinners, but plan to come for many more. She allows one person to be the Guest of Honor for the week, which basically means that they get to choose the menu for that week. She typically cooks it, and will get help from anyone that comes early. I have already decided what my week’s meal will be. I am happy to say that for Christmas ond of Milca’s friends gave us a griddle, which we have used to make pancakes. I’ve been dying to make grilled cheese, as its a specialty of mine, so I’m bringing over the griddle and going nuts. Different kinds of bread, cheese, etc. There will be extra toppings for those that desire some tomato, onions, etc. Grilled onions and tomato on sour dough… mmmm…
Anyhow, Saturday was Mom’s birthday. She had a training class she was teaching at the Scout office, and she had some sections that she needed some people to cover, so as her birthday present I taught the sections, then later took her out to dinner. Milca got her a gift of Hawaii-esque stationary. If you know my mom at all, you know that this was a perfect gift. We went to dinner at Dino’s, which is a nice place to get old people Italian food. No, that’s not Italian food made from real Italians. They’re that kind of restaurant that you will always find old people eating at. Do with that as you will.
Milca’s mom came back from Europe earlier that day, and had a new jacket for me that she picked up in Italy. It’s tan, silk, and extra comfy. Very nice. I was just thinking how I needed a new jacket that wasn’t fleece or something like that. Poi-fect.
Sunday Milca and I went hiking with the dogs, which was nice. With all the rain that we’ve had in the past several months the hiking trails have been extra green. This is a double edged sword, of course, as this greenery includes poison oak. I’ve had poison oak 3 times in the past year. POISON OAK SUCKS ASS. Having been hit with it this many times, I am extra careful about scratching and touching the dogs while on the trail. I can spot the stuff on the trail, so I didn’t walk through it or anything, I typically get it from the dogs, who run through the stuff like it’s nothing.
When we got back to the house, Milca’s mom made gnocchis. This is quite possibly my favorite Italian dish. As I’ve only had them home made, I’m afraid to order them at an Italian place, so these times that she makes them is extra special. I wasn’t there when she made them, meaning I was either still on the trail or I was downstairs killing Ganon with my Silver Arrows. I will make a point to be there the next time she makes them so that I can give it a go. It’s really just a matter of skinning potatoes, boiling them, then letting them cool. After that it’s pretty cut and dry, depending on how crazy you want to get.
I’m back to work, where I find that I am in the process of being transfered to the phone team. This means being guaranteed working Mon-Fri. This also means hours where I don’t need to be here when the sun has yet to rise. This also means that I will be in my element, so I can shine as brightly as possible. Party on.
Boy Band
This isn’t like Cartman’s idea for making 10 million dollars, but I have an idea for a website. I’d say what it is, but don’t want to get jacked. Needless to say, if this takes off, this will surely make me, well, money. Not rich, but I’d be sitting pretty. Now all I need are some webdesigners and people that know how to get advertising for the site, and I’m good to go.
So… anybody interested?
Home Alone
No car, new job, sick pets, depressed wife…
I’ve been home a lot lately, and I miss everyone. I feel very alone.
On the brighter side, my car is being fixed, and I am getting out of the house this weekend to see friends.
Even so, I almost cried just now typing that second line.
christheloop needs a hug.
My Battle Cry
I’m guessing that this rampage is caused by the amount of spam I get, based on that Battle Cry.
