Dads, Dino’s, and Doggies

Last Friday I was fortunate enough to meet a Amanda’s dad who was in town taking in the sites and whatnot. I had met her mom before, and had heard a good deal about her dad, so I was especially eager to meet her other creator. She had dinner at her house for about 14 people, which was pretty hard core. She has dinner at her place weekly for the homies, which is just a testament to her awesomeness. I’ve only been there for a couple dinners, but plan to come for many more. She allows one person to be the Guest of Honor for the week, which basically means that they get to choose the menu for that week. She typically cooks it, and will get help from anyone that comes early. I have already decided what my week’s meal will be. I am happy to say that for Christmas ond of Milca’s friends gave us a griddle, which we have used to make pancakes. I’ve been dying to make grilled cheese, as its a specialty of mine, so I’m bringing over the griddle and going nuts. Different kinds of bread, cheese, etc. There will be extra toppings for those that desire some tomato, onions, etc. Grilled onions and tomato on sour dough… mmmm…

Anyhow, Saturday was Mom’s birthday. She had a training class she was teaching at the Scout office, and she had some sections that she needed some people to cover, so as her birthday present I taught the sections, then later took her out to dinner. Milca got her a gift of Hawaii-esque stationary. If you know my mom at all, you know that this was a perfect gift. We went to dinner at Dino’s, which is a nice place to get old people Italian food. No, that’s not Italian food made from real Italians. They’re that kind of restaurant that you will always find old people eating at. Do with that as you will.

Milca’s mom came back from Europe earlier that day, and had a new jacket for me that she picked up in Italy. It’s tan, silk, and extra comfy. Very nice. I was just thinking how I needed a new jacket that wasn’t fleece or something like that. Poi-fect.

Sunday Milca and I went hiking with the dogs, which was nice. With all the rain that we’ve had in the past several months the hiking trails have been extra green. This is a double edged sword, of course, as this greenery includes poison oak. I’ve had poison oak 3 times in the past year. POISON OAK SUCKS ASS. Having been hit with it this many times, I am extra careful about scratching and touching the dogs while on the trail. I can spot the stuff on the trail, so I didn’t walk through it or anything, I typically get it from the dogs, who run through the stuff like it’s nothing.

When we got back to the house, Milca’s mom made gnocchis. This is quite possibly my favorite Italian dish. As I’ve only had them home made, I’m afraid to order them at an Italian place, so these times that she makes them is extra special. I wasn’t there when she made them, meaning I was either still on the trail or I was downstairs killing Ganon with my Silver Arrows. I will make a point to be there the next time she makes them so that I can give it a go. It’s really just a matter of skinning potatoes, boiling them, then letting them cool. After that it’s pretty cut and dry, depending on how crazy you want to get.

I’m back to work, where I find that I am in the process of being transfered to the phone team. This means being guaranteed working Mon-Fri. This also means hours where I don’t need to be here when the sun has yet to rise. This also means that I will be in my element, so I can shine as brightly as possible. Party on.
